As scientists we do not exist in ‘silos’. The days of the ‘ivory tower’ science are over and as scientists we are called upon to engage with the public, with government and with industry.

Last Tuesday week I attended a meeting on campus to introduce Athena Swan. Who or what is Athena Swan, do you ask? 

As the first quarter of the year comes to an end, most of us are resurfacing from an intense period of grant-writing. Despite the fierce competition for grants, Bio21 remains a success story and I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the most recent awards and achievements by Bio21 researchers.

It’s been a little over a week since I’ve taken up my post as Director of the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute. Thanks to everyone for their warm welcome. It is a great honour to lead the Institute into an exciting future, located in one of the great bioscience precincts in the world.
