Stores & Purchasing

The University of Melbourne Specialist Store website is open from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm each week day (except University holidays). Registered Users can order from the store via an on-line system. Goods can be collected after receiving an email that they are ready (open 9am to 4pm). All purchases will be charged at the end of the month. Check the product range on the University of Melbourne Specialist Store website.

New product lines

The Stores Product Quality Panel, formed with representatives of the Institute membership, evaluates proposed new store line items and recommends the items to be stocked. Registered Users may also leave requests for consideration via the University of Melbourne Specialist Store website .

Purchasing items not stocked

The store also offers a purchasing service for items that do not appear on the catalogue. If this service is required, a non-chemical purchasing requisition form (download from University of Melbourne Specialist Store website) must be completed and lodged prior to purchase. It should include:

  • Suppliers name and any contact details
  • Stock information such as catalogue number
  • Description
  • Pack size
  • Quantity
  • Unit price
  • End Users name with Supervisor's signature
  • Account string that the order is to be billed against
  • Completed EHS Prepurchase Checklist.

For Chemicals, please use this Chemical Requisition Form (also downloadable from University of Melbourne Specialist Store website).

    Goods receiving service

The store team provides a goods' receival service through the loading bay. Packages received are placed in the store and electronic notifications sent to nominated members of each research group. Those picking up packages on behalf of the lab/person, may be required to present identification.  Please ensure that suppliers clearly mark all packages with the recipient's name and any special storage conditions (e.g. storage temperature).

    Deliveries and pick-ups

All deliveries to the Institute are to be directed to the store, accessed by the loading bay from the laneway off Flemington Road.

To avoid unnecessary delays in receiving or sending items through the store, please ensure store personnel are kept informed of your plans and that the correct recipient, sender and contact details are clearly indicated (see Couriers).

Any delivery brought to Reception or Security will be redirected to the loading bay. Reception and the security office will not accept deliveries if the store is closed. If the loading bay is closed, Reception will phone the intended recipient and ask that they collect the item from the deliverer. Deliveries cannot be left in Reception pending collection.

    Loading Bay

The loading bay is accessed by the laneway off Flemington Road and is for goods, consumables and courier deliveries. The Institute's store and purchasing staff are located on the ground floor, room G59. They are responsible for controlling the flow of goods throughout this area and the collection of orders from the store.

The loading bay is frequented by trucks and vans and is therefore unsafe. Pedestrian traffic is not permitted in the area.
