Environmental Practices
Water: Turn water taps off when finished
Electricity: Turn appliances and lights off when not needed
Gas: Turn Bunsen burners off when not needed
Chemicals, gases, isotopes and biologicals: Use minimum quantity
Paper: Print double sided where possible - otherwise re-use single sided
Laboratory waste: Segregate for disposal -
1. Halogenated solvents
2. Non-halogenated solvents
Trade waste/laboratory sink: Do not dispose of substances hazardous to environment or sewerage workers
Recycling: Recycle paper, glass, cardboard, batteries
Lighting Scheme
Laboratory Lights
Bank 1 (Near Windows)
- To switch off automatically at 8:00pm
If lights are required after 8:00pm, they will need to be switched on manually. They will again switch off
automatically at 10:00pm and midnight.
Bank 2 (Central)
- To switch off automatically at 8:10pm
If lights are required after 8pm, they will need to be switched on manually. They will again switch off
automatically at 10:00pm and midnight.
Bank 3 (Lab Corridor & Specialist areas)
- To switch off automatically at 10:00pm
If lights are required after 10:00pm, they will need to be switched on manually.
Office Lights
- To be turned on manually
- To switch off automatically at 8:00pm
- If required after this they are to be switched manually
Corridor Lights
- To be turned on manually
- To switch off automatically at 10:00pm
External Lighting & Rear Car Park
- To switch off automatically at 8:00pm
Dangerous Goods Area & Loading Bay
- To be turned on manually
- To switch off automatically at 5:00pm
Underground Car Park
- To switch on automatically at 6:45am
- To switch off automatically at 8:00pm
