Services

How does Bio21 Systems and Computational Biology Platform work with you?

We provide computing services to members working in platform technology facilities and Bio21 Management. Our services extend to all members of the Institute in any computing matter related to services provided by our core platform technology facilities.

Services offered by the Systems and Computational Biology Platform team include:

•    High performance computing , (HPC)
•    Research server administration,
•    Scientific instrument control (software and hardware),
•    Custom-built research work-stations,
•    Data acquisition/storage and transfer,
•    Specialized database design and administration,
•    LIMS,
•    Bioinformatics,
•    Software development

Our current activities are summarised below:

  1. Working with platforms, with varying levels of involvement, we do:

Plan, advise, provide local resources, develop software and implement complete data-workflow solutions for:

CryoEM and other types of Microscopy technologies
    Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy
    Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics
    Proteins and peptide characterisation
    Metabolomics

The team also provide on-going collaboration in development activities within those areas as well as design, coding, scripting work for any associated activities

  2. For wider Institute Researcher community:
Provide local resources and collaborate with High performing computing in following areas:

    Biological Data Modelling
    Malaria epidemiology and Genomic epidemiology
Computational biology – molecular simulations, virtual screening, computational drug discovery and development
Single particle Cryo-EM and cryo-electron tomography
    Bioinformatics pipeline development
    Machine learning and deep learning

The Platform  also provide ad-hoc bioinformatics advice or engagement in any other traditional and new research projects and themes within the institute when required, co-ordinates Institute activities with the University of Melbourne’s infrastructure and workspace computing services, faculties as well as external institutions, affiliates, developers and vendors.

We also implement services to support research activities, such as:

•    the online ordering system for the University’s Specialist Store (Currently managed by UoM)
•    the online  Platform scheduling system
