Two new initiatives to support talented early career researchers

The Bio21 Institute is pleased to be launching two new initiatives commencing in 2013 in support of early career researchers.

The Wettenhall Establishment Award and the Bio21 Institute / CSL Ltd Early Career Researcher Award will be offered later this year as part of the Bio21 Institute’s commitment to developing the careers of talented postdoctoral fellows.

The first round of the new Awards will open for applications on Monday 17 September 2012, with the inaugural award recipients to be announced before the end of the year.

“The awards provide opportunities that would be of enormous benefit to talented researchers who show potential and enthusiasm to further develop their independent research interests,” said Professor Malcolm McConville, Acting Director Bio21 Institute.

The Wettenhall Establishment Award is an annual postdoctoral researcher award established in recognition of the outstanding vision of the inaugural Director of the Bio21 Institute, Professor Richard (Dick) EH Wettenhall and his commitment to the career development of early career researchers.  The award will support individuals who have a strong research track record, are currently undertaking research that is aligned with one or more of the research themes of the  Bio21 Institute and is designed to assist with their transition from senior post-doctoral scientist to independent researcher. One award will be presented for commencement in 2013 valued at up to $60,000.

Professor Wettenhall said that he was looking forward to the announcement of the inaugural Wettenhall Establishment Award recipient.

"The prestigious award will provide the successful applicant with unique opportunities to further their research career by leveraging the Institute's unique interdisciplinary collaborative environment and cutting-edge platform technology facilities. This investment in young talent will further enhance the Institute's position as an important provider of our future research leaders".
